Fishing Lake Kinkaid Illinois
Located within southern Illinois’ Shawnee National Forest, the waters of Lake Kinkaid are home to one of the best fisheries in the Midwest.
The lake’s large forage base supports a high volume of musky, bluegill, crappie, smallmouth bass, hybrid white bass, stripers, trout, walleye and catfish, further supported by an excellent stocking program.
A spillway barrier prevents big trophy fish from leaving the lake, all the better for visiting fishermen. Besides Lake Kinkaid, the area around the forest contains many excellent lakes, ponds, rivers, and pits with thriving fish populations. And with a season that typically begins in February, the Lake Kinkaid area is a great place for early action before the openers up north.
Only 100 miles southeast of Saint Louis, Kinkaid Lake makes a great day-trip destination for residents of Missouri and southern Illinois. If you’re coming from a bit farther away, affordable, comfortable motel and B&B accommodations can be found in nearby Murphysboro, IL, along with many fine stores and restaurants.
